To participate in the eReefs Dashboard workshop you will need access to the software described in the Pre-Workshop Setup Instructions. You will also need an up-to-date web browser. Most of you will need an IT administator from your organisation to help you install this software, but for those of you who have your own computer or admin rights to your work computer the instructions should be detailed enough to get you up and running. The current eReefs system uses two types of remote sensing science: ocean colour and sea surface temperature (SST).
Now that you've got a bit more of a handle on how the data are generated we're going to look at how you can access them.
The eReefs Dashboard provides an world wide web interface to the eReefs satellite data files. It is a webpage that enables basic visualisation and acquisition of the core Marine Water Quality and ReefTemp Indices for each day of the year and for composite weeks, months, wet and dry seasons, and calendar years. The Dashboard is built on top of the THREDDS system and uses standard data access protocols through thredds to access the eReefs data files.
What if the dashboard can't do what you want? Well, this little tute will show you a method for access the ereefs data in your own way using freely available tools.
So, you want to do something that neither the dashboard or Panoply can do? This is when you have to break out the programming langauges and create your own software.
